HEALING MODALITIES
Carol Hornig is highly skilled in the following therapies.
NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING “Through my experience as a nutritionist I came to understand the meaning of true nourishment.” Each one of us has a unique relationship to food based on a complex combination of heredity, environment, psychological makeup, childhood training and personal experience. When that relationship isn’t what we want it to be, it can be very helpful to explore it from an holistic point of view. Our diet is one of the most clearly manifest expressions of our multi-dimensional self. Much like our relationship with other human beings, we can reconsider our relationship to food and change it for the better. Carol’s approach is inclusive, drawing on countless contributors to the field of human nutrition and informed by Ayurvedic principles and Chinese medicine. There is no judgment in this work. You are seen as whole and complete, just as you are. The more we cherish ourselves and understand who we really are, the more nourishment we can take in. When we work at this deeper level, old habits and patterns can change dramatically. You will learn to feed yourself from the inside out. Carol says: Deep nourishment is like eating chocolate, no matter how well it is described, you don’t really know what it is until you’ve tasted it for yourself. INTEGRATED KABBALISTIC HEALING combines 13th century Kabbalistic wisdom, the latest theories in quantum physics and contemporary psychological insights, providing a powerful transformative experience creating practical changes in every aspect of life. This method can be effective whatever your personal religious beliefs, or beliefs about religion, might be. It is a nonsectarian approach that is based on a recognition of the universal nature of the human spirit, and our common desire to live a full life. In IKH, the healing journey and the spiritual journey are literally one and the same thing. As we heal, we wake up spiritually, our awareness changes. As our awareness changes, our body, mind, and spirit heal. Waking up and healing happen together. IKH is an extremely compassionate way to make the sometimes difficult journey into our own truth. The process gently teaches us to let go of knowing what we thought we knew and what we thought we absolutely had to know. This work brings us, each at our own pace, into deeper and deeper self-realization. Jason Shulman, the founder of IKH and of A Society of Souls states: “Integrated Kabbalistic Healing is, above all, a means of joining with the Divine. It is a path of profound transformation, the fruit of which is to awaken into Life in such a way that our former lives seem like sleep in comparison. It brings about the ultimate healing of the human soul.” INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS THERAPY (IFS) addresses the fact that each of us has many different aspects to our psyche and personality. This can result in inner conflict that keeps us from living in a way that would make us happier. Often, we subvert our own ambitions. We have parts that want to eat better, or exercise more, or achieve a particular goal in our work, but another part of us will undermine those goals or act in ways that are not in our own best interest. Some parts of us feel ashamed or filled with fear, some parts try to control everything, other parts want to withdraw or numb out. We can often feel conflicted, as if we are “at war” with ourselves. IFS shows how these different aspects of our personality relate to one another much like an internal family with an essential Self acting as the “head of the family.” This Self has the ability to serve as an inner therapist, bringing support and stability into our daily life. From this center, we can resolve internal conflicts and relate to our inner critics. We can form healing relationships with all aspects of our selves in order to realize our full potential. This mindfulness-based therapy states: “All the esoteric branches of the world’s religions teach that there is within us an untarnished essence, a Self from which flows wisdom, healing and spiritual energy. IFS provides a safe, sensitive way for you to access the Self and bring the natural compassion and confidence of that state into daily life.” THE HAKOMI METHOD combines Eastern traditions of mindfulness with highly effective western methodology. It stresses the concept of the body-mind connection and the unity of all things. Hakomi is a Hopi Indian word meaning “How do you stand in relation to the many realms?” The modern translation of this question would be: “Who are you?” The Hakomi method uses body-centered somatic therapy to help us answer this question and uncover the core beliefs which shape our lives, relationships, and self-image. Once safely uncovered, these beliefs can be reconsidered and, if needed, transformed into a powerful new awareness of the integrated self. Relationship is central to this practice which stresses our connection with the world around us. The relationship between the healer and the client functions as a model for new dimensions of awareness. The Hakomi Method provides a deep sense of safety and security within which powerful transformation can occur.
The Hakomi Institute states: “You can discover a great deal about yourself using these methods, and in that pursuit of the knowledge of self is the key to whatever freedom and full human "beingness" we shall ever attain. The journey itself becomes a way of life because the self one is interested in is no longer the individual ego, but the unbounded self of the spirit. Because, finally, that is who you are.” ~ |
