CAROL HORNIG DEEP NOURISHMENT Finding the sustenance you need for the life you want ~
Carol Hornig is an integrative healer who embodies the belief that the way to healing is through deep nourishment. Deep nourishment is a unique blend of nutritional counseling, emotional, spiritual, and hands-on healing. This work can help you connect to the vital resources you have within. Whether you are dealing with physical, psychological or spiritual difficulties, or you simply long for something more, deep nourishment provides the basis for real change and the possibility of living an awakened life. Carol works with an open-hearted compassion that encourages you to embrace your humanness and develop kindness toward yourself and others. As you integrate this attitude and experience the healing, your perspective shifts, you see things from a wider point of view. You find you have more options, more energy to deal with life. You move into a different kind of relationship with yourself. You transform.
“To live a healthy life, we must be nourished physically, emotionally and spiritually. We’re starved in this culture. We’re not underfed but we’re undernourished.” What would it mean to nourish all of who you are? To nourish means to provide what is necessary for growth and health. To nourish all of who you are is to provide what is necessary for physical, emotional, and spiritual growth and health. On the physical level nourishment comes through food, exercise, sleep, and play. On the emotional level nourishment comes through understanding yourself and your place in the world. On the spiritual level nourishment comes through experiencing more and more of reality and the interconnectedness of all things. These levels are completely intertwined with one another and connect us to the essence with which we are born. When we are undernourished on any of these levels, that connection weakens. In recovering and strengthening that connection we can come to cherish and embrace all of who we are.
“I love the fact that change is possible, real change, lasting change. I know it can happen. I’ve seen it. I’ve experienced it.” How is this work different? Most therapies focus on one aspect of the self, either the body, the mind, or the spirit. Carol has seen the problems that arise when symptoms are treated independently of the whole person. If you focus on the symptom, rather than addressing the whole self, you wind up with new and different symptoms. Deep nourishment looks at our relationship with all aspects of our being and works with the fundamental essence that underlies our multi-dimensional self. When you work at this level you can integrate your whole being. When you work at this level, you can influence everything. What’s right for you? When something isn’t working in your life, it can show up in any number of ways, poor physical health, difficulties in relationships and work, addictions, depression, anxiety, discontent. Because Carol is an integrative healer, with experience in alternative therapies as well as traditional medicine, she can consider the dynamic interplay between body, mind, and spirit and so individualize the work for your particular needs. It takes this kind of integrative approach to effect real change.
“I hold that, in essence, we are perfectly fine. We are not broken … but we are in parts. We want to integrate all our precious parts.” Certain life experiences have the effect of alienating us from our core self, which is the true source of happiness and fulfillment. We long to be at ease within ourselves and comfortable with others, to relax and feel confident in meeting what life brings. We all have an innate drive to connect with something greater, to connect with what we live within and what lives within us. The body-centered spiritual work of deep nourishment helps us toward these goals. You begin to see your own stories with more compassion and more detachment. You move into a different relationship toward your personal problems, toward those around you, and toward your world.
“You can live free from the burdens of the stories that control you. You can turn your deepest wounds into your greatest gifts. You can make things better, in your own life and in the world.” If we are human, we experience suffering. This is a basic truth. We fall down. We scrape our knees. We develop scars. Pain is an inevitable part of life, but our humanity carries with it another legacy as well. We have, within us, the capacity to work with our suffering as mature and wise human beings. We have the capacity to become quite extraordinary.
“We can’t control what life brings us but we can consciously engage with it. This doesn’t require some secret skill that’s hard to learn. We have the ability inside of us right now, we simply need to uncover it. There are many reasons to do this, not the least of which is – it’s fun to live fully.” Everything in life is relationship. We live and breathe within a great web of relationship, with our community, with friends and family and, most fundamentally, with ourselves. When we are deeply nourished, we can look at our lives and relationships with a fresh perspective and make conscious choices. We can transform our relationship to our own suffering and the suffering of others. We see that while we can’t always change what we experience, we can change how we perceive it. When we do that, we have changed everything.
“We have the capability to take a tremendous step into a fully realized life, to experience inner peace and outer power, and to take our place in the 21st century and meet the challenges around us. It’s amazing what integrated people can do in the world.” |
